The situation for Philadelphia Flyers' defenseman Radko Gudas did not look good from the get go, but the big man may be hurting his chances.

The National Hockey League's Department of Player Safety is now reporting that Gudas has decided to decline his in-person hearing, something that is usually reserved for suspensions of 6 games or more.

As a result the league's Department of Player Safety will conduct a hearing over the phone with Gudas on Sunday, something that in theory will now result in him missing one additional game on Saturday. While Gudas has not yet officially been suspended, he is ineligible to play until the hearing has been conducted.

It seems the repeat offender is headed for a massive suspension following an awful looking slash to the head and neck of Winnipeg Jets' forward Mathieu Perreault, and one has to wonder if declining the face to face hearing may have been a bad idea.
