BREAKING: NHL Team reportedly wrote an official letter to ban fight

An excellent report from Rick Westhead, Correspondent with The Sports Network, former Toronto Star foreign correspondent, and contributor to The New York Times, show an undated NHL document (2011 or 2013?), presumably from St. Louis Blues exec, seems to suggest club supports ban on fighting. Here’s what the document says:

Let me mention on more issues: fighting

Without getting into all the pros and cons, I just want you to know that, as this issue evolves you would have support here for elimination fighting—I have a feeling that’s where you see this going.

I get all the arguments for fighting.

But Steve Yzerman said what I have been saying: we can’t maintain the position that we are all about eliminating head injuries, concussions and yet alow players to pound each other’s head—with the occasional header to the ice thrown in.

Also, I believe we would see a net gain in fans, interest if we eliminated fighting—fighting turns a lot of people off, doesn’t jibe with football and other sports, downgrades the product and league.
