Bad news for the Pittsburgh Penguins.

After coming out on top of the Columbus Blue Jackets in a 5-2 win, the Penguins lost big in the end. The Penguins lost Bryan Rust and Chad Ruhwedel to injury Tuesday night, adding to a list that already had Kris Letang, Brian Dumoulin and Olli Maatta.

Rust was injured after he collided with new Jackets defenseman Adam McQuaid towards the end of the the first period. McQuaid was also shaken up on the play and missed part of the second period, however, Rust got the worse of the hit.

The forward went down the Penguins’ tunnel, and appeared to avoid putting much weight on his left leg. After the game, he was seen leaving with a walking booth and crutches, and head coach Mike Sullivan confirmed on Wednesday that he would be out longer term with a lower-body injury.

Ruhwedel was shaken up after this hit by Nick Foligno during the second period. He immediately skated off to the dressing room and appeared to injure his right arm on the play.

Sullivan confirmed that he would be out longer term with an upper-body injury.

Letang and Dumoulin remain day-to-day with their injuries. The Penguins acquired Erik Gudbranson from the Vancouver Canucks at the trade deadline and he might have to slot in the roster.

The Penguins are in a tight playoff race and these injuries couldn't come at a worse moment...
