Another team has suffered a catastrophic loss ahead of the playoffs.

We knew after watching the footage from last night;s game that Rangers captain Ryan McDonagh had been hurt, but there was still some hope the injury would not be serious. Unfortunately an official announcement from the Rangers has revealed that McDonagh will be out "indefinitely" with an "upper-body injury" and will miss at the very least the final three games of the regular season.

The news gets worse however, Rangers insider Larry Brooks of the New York Post has revealed that the injury is in fact a a broken bone in McDonagh's right hand, no surprise given the injury occurred after blocking a shot with that hand, and furthermore there is a real possibility he misses multiple playoff games with the injury.

From Brooks:

"Sources have told The Post that while McDonagh is not expected to be sidelined longterm, he very well could miss the first few games of the opening round with the break he sustained Monday in Columbus..."

Even if McDonagh does return in the short-term, it will likely be with him dealing with the injury and playing at less than 100%. There's no denying it, this is a huge loss for the Rangers.
