The New York Rangers announced yesterday that they have signed unrestricted free-agent Dawson Leedahl to a three year, entry-level contract that begins in 2017-18.

Leedahl is an undrafted forward who recently finished up five incredible seasons in the WHL in which he compiled 190 points in 297 career games. This past season with the Regina Pats, his hometown team, Leedahl scored 35 goals and 89 points in 71 games, while also leading the team with 121 penalty minutes. The 6’2”, 195 lb winger is no stranger to the rough stuff and isn’t afraid to drop the gloves to protect his teammates.

At just 21 years-old and without a single game of pro hockey on his resume, it’s expected that Leedahl will slot into the Rangers’ AHL plans for next season, likely suiting up for the Hartford Wolfpack for his first pro season. Beyond that, he could work his way into the Rangers lineup and provide them with some grit and toughness on their bottom nine forward group.
