According to Washington Post reporter and Capitals insider Isabelle, Khurshudyan, the Washington Capitals have signed 25 year-old forward Devante Smith-Pelly to a one-year, two-way contract.

Bought out of his previous contract by the New Jersey Devils last week, Smith-Pelly took a significant pay cut to join the Capitals and will earn $650,000 next season in the NHL or $300,000 in the AHL. His previous deal paid him $1.3 million annually, of which he’ll receive $225,000 of each year for the next two seasons.

The big winger has struggled with injuries and consistency his entire NHL career, so his one year “show me” deal with the Caps may be his final chance to prove his worth as an NHL player.
