The Detroit Red Wings announced some more bad news on Monday morning.

After the injury to Thmoas Vanek initially appeared to be a minor one, the Wings revealed last week that in fact he would be wee to week instead of day to day. Today the team has now revealed that Vanek is headed to long-term injured reserve, which means he is expected to miss at the very least 24 days of action. That 24 days is to be applied retroactively starting October 25th.

As a result of Vanek heading to LTIR, the Red Wings have called up their second round draft pick in 2013, forward Tyler Bertuzzi, from the Grand Rapids Griffins. Should Bertuzzi see play it would be his first chance to gain some experience at the National Hockey League level.

He has appeared in nine games for the Griffins this season, where he has record two goals and two assist for a total of four points, and has a plus minus rating of three over that stretch.
