While the rest of the National Hockey League may still be catching up when it comes to knowing just how good rookie sensation Shayne Gostisbehere has been this season, fans in Philadelphia definitely know by now, and that makes this news all the more devastating.

Gostisbehere left the Thursday night match up between the Philadelphia Flyers and Minnesota wild after just two shifts on the ice, but it was unclear exactly what had happened to cause him to head to the locker room.

According to a report from the Flyers official website it now appears that Gostibehere has in fact been injured although the team did not elaborate any further on to what the injury might be other than to say it's a lower body injury. From NHL.com:

During the third period of the Flyers-Wild game in Minnesota, Flyers GM Ron Hextall gave an injury update on defenseman Shayne Gostisbehere.
Gostisbehere has a lower body injury and will not return to the game.

While right now it's just speculation, Flyers insider Sam Carchidi has suggested the injury may have been caused when Gostisbehere was tripped by Wild captain Mikko Koivu.
