Breaking: Sabres GM makes huge announcement

The Buffalo Sabres will begin their season without a captain, General Manager Jason Boterill announced on Wednesday. He added that the management team could still name a captain during the season, if someone stands out as the best candidate. Buffalo are without a captain since Brian Gionta was not offered a new contract this summer. He served as the team captain from 2014 until the end of last season, after joining the team as a free agent in the summer of 2014.

Many expected the team to name Jack Eichel as their new captain, after the 20-year old forward signed a height year contract extension with the team.
