With so much uncertainty surrounding the Sharks, it was smart to make this move.

San Jose Sharks general manager Doug Wilson has announced that the club has reached a two-year contract extension with goaltender Troy Grosenick.

The 27 year-old goaltender capped off an incredible AHL season in 2016-17 by winning the Aldege “Baz” Bastien Award as the league’s top goaltender. Grosenick finished the season 2nd in wins (30), tied for 2nd in save percentage (.926) and 3rd in goals against average (2.04). He also added a league-high 10 shutouts during the campaign.

Originally signed as a free-agent by the Sharks in 2013, Gooseneck has worked his way through the team’s depth chart and now appears poised to take the backup position behind starter Martin Jones for 2017-18. With some much importance being stressed on the backup position in today’s NHL, the Sharks were smart to cement the position and lock up Grosenick for the next two seasons.
