Many Vancouver Canucks fans believe they too often face bad luck.

And that's what it was last night when Canucks veteran defenseman Alexander Edler was carted off on a stretcher after being bloodied during a game against the Philadelphia Flyers. Edler crashed face-first to the ice midway through the third period of a 2-1 loss. The terrifying injury took place when Edler’s skate got caught in the stick of  Flyers' Jakub Voracek, causing Edler to lose his balance and slam face first into the ice.

With a bloodied face and dazed look, Edler eventually was wheeled off on a stretcher as fans worried about his condition moving forward.

However, on Tuesday, Sportsnet's John Shannon provided one shocking update on Edler's condition that will have Canucks fans feeling more than just lucky. Yes, the hockey Gods are on your side.

Shannon has just revealed that Edler did not suffer any facial fractures as he fell into the ice. He is simply sore and bruised.

Canucks coach Travis Green said after the game that Edler had gone for X-rays, but it seems like everything is still intact. It remains to be seen when Edler will be back to action, however, you have to admit this is great news for the defenseman and the rest of the team.

Coach Green added later on Tuesday that Edler would be out at least a week due to a concussion.

The team's priority ahead of the Feb. 25 trade deadline is to re-sign Edler, arguably their best defender. The veteran plays 20 minutes a game and always menaces with his big shot from the point. While he sits out to nurse his face, you have to believe the Canucks will be looking to re-sign to allow him to spend the rest of his career in Vancouver.

But for now the good news is that nothing is broken!
