Breaking: Star defenseman reportedly close to signing huge new deal.

A big rumor from one of the game's top insiders.

ESPN's Pierre Lebrun is reporting that the San Jose Sharks are very close to coming to terms a new contract with one of the National Hockey League's very best defensemen, Brent Burns. 

LeBrun stated on Tuesday that while there were sill some details that needed to be worked out that would determine whether or not the deal ultimately comes to fruition there has been "serious progress" between both the Sharks and Burns' representation. 

This would be a huge signing for San Jose, not only because Burns is truly one of the best at his position in the NHL, but also due to the fact that rumors have been rampant since the start of the season that Burns' intentions were to play out the final year of his deal and become a free agent.
