A huge loss for Philly.

The Philadelphia Flyers have been dealt a devastating blow.

On Wednesday the Flyers placed forward Sean Couturier on injured reserve, a move that indicates he has been sidelined for at least a week. Couturier is now headed back to Philadelphia for further testing and there is fear the time frame for his recovery could be even worse than that.

It is believed that he has suffered an MCL sprain, and the question of whether or not the injury will require surgery is still lingering in the air. Until we get an answer regarding the need for surgery it will likely be unclear how long exactly Couturier is expected to miss but this one seems to be leaning towards the long-term.

Coturier suffered the injury on Tuesday night during a seemingly harmless collision with Florida Panther Vincent Trocheck, and as arguably the Flyers' best two-way players, one of their best face-off men and the center for one of their top lines this is a massive loss.

Scott Laughton has been called up from the Phantoms as a result of the move to injured reserve for Couturier.
