Breaking: The Blackhawks are eyeing another “Artemi Panarin”

Maxim Shalunov, does that ring a bell? Obviously not.

Maxim Shalunow was a 4th round pick by the Blackhawks in 2011 who decided to stay in Russia for his professional career. "The Chicago Blackhawks could be going back to the KHL well again next offseason. GM Stan Bowman said recently that the Blackhawks hope to sign forward Maxim Shalunov, their 2011 fourth-round pick, when the opportunity arises next offseason" according to The Athletic’s Scott Powers. "There was some initial confusion as to whether the Blackhawks still held his NHL rights over five years after being drafted, but that appears to the case"

Shulanov is having a breakout year as he's producing more than a point per game (1.03PPG) which is something close to what Artemi Panarin (1.15PPG) was doing back in the day. Although there is a major difference; Panarin played on a stacked up line with SKA St-Petersburg while Shulanov is mostly on his own.

The 23 year-old is also built for the NHL with Eliteprospect listing him at 6"4 and 212 pounds, that kind of frame would make him one of the biggest Hawks forward.
