Breaking: The NHL has suspended Blackhawks captain Joanthan Toews.

Rules are rules but this seems a little silly.

The National Hockey League has issued a suspension of Chicago Blackhawks captain Jonathan Toews after the team announced he would not be participating in the All-Star game due to a lingering illness that forced him to leave the game during Chicago's 5-0 loss to Carolina earlier this week.

Obviously the rule is there to prevent players from faking an injury or illness to get out of participating in the contest, and that makes a ton of sense, but suspending a player for being so ill he needed to leave in the middle of a game seems a little over the top.

Nonetheless there is a silver lining, if Toews really is that ill he will get an extra days rest to recover.
