Young defenceman Frank Corrado will make his return to the NHL tonight, suiting up for Pittsburgh as the Penguins take on the Buffalo Sabres.

Corrado was acquired by the Penguins on March 1st, in a trade that was considered a salary dump and not much else. Corrado was traded from Toronto for Eric Fehr, Steven Olesky and a 4th-round draft pick in this season’s NHL Entry Draft.

The 23-year-old Toronto-native has been bouncing around the NHL and AHL since he made his debut for the Vancouver Canucks in the 2012-13 season. The 6’, 190 lbs defenseman played in 28 games for the Canucks between 2012 and the 2014-15 season, when he was claimed off waivers by Toronto. Corrado played in only two games with his hometown club this season, while frequently a healthy scratch.

Corrado’s biggest assets are his speed and poise with the puck, and is primarily a puck moving defenseman. While he excels at the AHL level, he hasn’t been able to secure a steady role on an NHL defense.

There is a ton of potential in Corrado’s game, and no doubt he is looking to impress on his new team so he can he can lock down a spot on Pittsburgh’s bottom pairing.

Corrado will likely be playing with Mark Streit as the Pens take of the Sabres.
