Breaking: Wild sign pending UFA Staal to multi-year deal

According to a report from NHL insider Bob McKenzie, the Minnesota Wild have re-signed veteran forward Eric Staal to a two year extension worth $3.25 million per season.

Eric Staal agrees to terms with MIN on a two-year extension with an AAV of $3.25M, including $3.5M next season and $3M the year after that. He would have been UFA on July 1.

Staal was slated to hit the open market as a free agent this upcoming offseason, but will obviously stay off the market thanks to his new deal. The 35 year old center has 18 goals and 41 points in 62 games with the Wild this season, but scored 42 goals and 76 points just a season ago.
