The Bruins make their final cuts in training camp on Sunday.
The Boston Bruins have made what is likely to be their final round of cuts before the start of the 2025-26 National Hockey League regular season.
On Sunday the Bruins announced an additional 5 cuts to their training camp roster, placing Jonathan Aspirot, Matej Blumel, Michael DiPietro and Alex Steeves on waivers for the purpose of assigning them to the American Hockey League's Providence Bruins. These 4 will be just 4 of 43 players who were placed on waivers Sunday and we will have to wait and see if any teams submit a claim for one or more of them.
Bruins goaltender Michael DiPietro might be particularly vulnerable to a waiver claim given that there have been rival teams rumored to be interested in prying him away from the Bruins.
There are of course however 5 players who have been cut from the roster today with the 5th player being Matt Poitras. Poitras, a second round pick (54th overall) at the 2022 NHL Entry Draft, is coming off of a 33 game season with the Bruins in which he put up 1 goal and 10 assists for 11 points.
The decision to send Poitras down to the AHL may not be related to his performance in training camp, and may instead be a purely practical decision on the part of the Bruins. Unlike the other players cut today, Poitras does not have to pass through waivers which could in theory prevent the Bruins from risking an additional player on waivers.
The Bruins will open their regular season on Wednesday, so there could still be some unforeseen changes between now and the start of the season.
