The Boston Bruins general manager didn't exactly garner more trust from his fan base yesterday when the team announced that they had committed $10 million of the next four years to defenseman Kevan Miller.

Perhaps as a result of the vitriolic reaction from his customers, Don Sweeney spoke to the media on Wednesday and discussed what his plans are for the team's pending free agents. Obviously the first question on everyone's mind was the future of Loui Eriksson as a member of the Boston Bruins.

“We’ve been in discussions with Loui,” Sweeney said Wednesday as per NESN. “I have a pretty good idea where they would like to be at, and we’ll see whether or not we can find common ground there, but we have been having ongoing discussions on that front. As I’ve always said, I really respect Loui as a player. He had a fabulous year and (we) would love to be able to retain him.”

It wasn't much reassurance from Sweeney, much of the same really that we have come to expect on this topic over the past several weeks, however Sweeney was more firm when it came to the status of Torey Krug.

“We’ve had talks with Torey,” Sweeney said. “Whatever term that ends up being, we’ll find a contract for him.”

Perhaps the reason for an evasive answer on the Eriksson comes down to the fact that Sweeney has yet to meet with his free agent players, having only had preliminary discussions with their representatives.

“I haven’t had final discussions with players individually,” he said. “I hope to be doing that this week. I have had some discussions with agents and giving some indication, but nothing finalized yet.”

Sweeney has just a little over a month to make those conversations happen.
