Awkward…

In case you missed it, the Boston Bruins picked up winger Marcus Johansson from the New Jersey Devils ahead of yesterday’s 3pm ET trade deadline.

The crazy thing is, Johansson is no stranger to the Bruins. A year ago Johansson was obliterated by an ugly elbow from Bruins forward Brad Marchand, an offence that earned Marchand a five game suspension.

Remember this?

Once he returned to the lineup, Johansson had some words for Marchand calling the hit “stupid” and saying that, “it’s sad to see that there are still guys out there that are trying to hurt other guys.”

Yikes… that could make for an ugly arrangement in the locker room were it not for Marchand reaching out to Johansson yesterday to clear the air.

“I think that’s water under the bridge,” Johansson said yesterday afternoon. “I think it’s hockey, it’s a tough game, and he called me yesterday, we spoke for a bit. And he apologized, which I think was great.”

“I just, like I said, that stuff happens a lot and it’s just fun to be here, it’s fun to be his teammate and I think he’s one of the best players in the league. So it’s fun to be on this side of it now.”

Johansson is expected to make his Bruins debut tonight against the visiting San Jose Sharks. on a line with David Krejci and Jake DeBrusk.
