Canadian teams step up to host return of 2020 NHL season

While the NHL brass sorts out just how in the Hell they're going to resume the 2020 NHL season, at least two Canadian teams have stepped up to host games when the league officially "unpauses". Those teams? The Edmonton Oilers and Vancouver Canucks. This info courtesy of TSN Oilers insider Ryan Rishaug.

Honestly... both locations make a ton of sense. 

In Edmonton's case, the Oilers have a brand new, state of the art multi-use facility in Rogers Place. The building not only has an NHL rink, but an additional practice rink, as well. Not to mention a gym and training facility. It's as good a choice as any.

As for Vancouver, the province of British Columbia has done an excellent job of controlling the spread of COVID-19. There are several facilities available to visiting teams like Rogers Arena (The Canucks' home arena), Pacific Coliseum (the Canucks' former home arena), Langley Events Centre (home of the WHL's Vancouver Giants), the facilities at the University of British Columbia (UBC) and the myriad of BCHL arenas around the lower mainland (Coquitlam, Surrey, Chilliwack, Langley). Vancouver is also a hub of international travel and would work well as a destination for players travelling back to North America from Europe.

No official or unofficial word yet on which cities the NHL is considering, but you have to imagine that both Edmonton and Vancouver are in the mix. Stay tuned, Wester Canadian hockey fans.
