The Straubing Tigers of Germany’s DEL have announced that they’ve signed former Vancouver Canucks forward Mike Zalewski to a contract for the 2017-18 season.

Zalewski has spent the majority of his young career close to home with the Canucks’ AHL affiliate in Utica, NY. Originally from New Hartford, NY, the 6’2”, 2015 lb winger has played three seasons for the Utica Comets and managed to work his way into six NHL games with the Canucks. When Canucks GM Jim Benning failed to hand Zalewski a qualifying offer in advance of the NHL's free agency period, he was allowed to walk away from the team as an unrestricted free agent.

When he arrives in Germany he’ll join his older brother Steven who has been a member of the Tigers for the past two seasons. The two Zalewski brothers will likely play together on a line in 2017-18.
