There may be a favorite emerging in what is quickly turning into the Carter Hart sweepstakes.

Over the course of last week it has become clear that, despite making a cap clearing move and trading goaltender Ivan Fedotov, that former Philadelphia Flyers goaltender Carter Hart will not be returning to his former team. It has been reported by multiple sources that Hart is looking for a fresh start and is more likely than not looking for an American team to sign with following a high profile trial in his home country of Canada.

Thus far however we have not heard any rumors of where Hart could end up, that is at least until now. On Monday morning, Daily Faceoff's Anthony Di Marco once again confirmed reports that the Flyers are truly out of the running while also linking Hart to a brand new team. According to Di Marco, the newly minted Utah Mammoth are a team to watch when it comes to the veteran NHL goaltender.

The Mammoth certainly have the cap space to make a move of this nature with a little over $6.6 million in cap still available heading into the 2025-26 National Hockey League regular season, and there are other reasons this move makes sense for the Mammoth as well.

Although the Mammoth already have 3 NHL goaltenders under contract, with Karel Vejmelka, Vitek Vanecek and Connor Ingram eating up a total of $8.2 million in cap space, they might be looking for some insurance at the position after what befell them last season.

Mammoth goaltender Connor Ingram struggled badly last season following the passing of his mother, recording a 3.27 goals against average and a .882 save percentage over 22 games, eventually entering the NHL/NHLPA Player Assistance Program to get help dealing with the difficult situation.

They may want to avoid the possibility of having a repeat scenario happening again this season, and with both Ingram and Vanecek on expiring contracts , the move makes sense in the long term as well.

Hart is however coming off of nearly a 2 year layoff from goaltending in the NHL and it remains to be seen if he can return to the form he once showed as a member of the Philadelphia Flyers.
