There was a rather surprising rumor earlier this week suggesting that Detroit Red Wings' forward Andreas Athanasiou could be leaving for the Kontinental Hockey League, and now that rumor has gained a lot more traction.

According to KHL insider Aivis Kalnins, not only is the Ak Bars Kazan interested in signing the 23-year-old forward, but two more Russian organizations have also expressed interest:

Will Holland's bad cap management cost him a very promising player? Detroit selected Athanasiou in the fourth round of the 2012 NHL draft. Since then, he scored 27 goals and added 16 assists for 43 points in 101 games. He also amassed one goal in five playoff games.
