Don Cherry totally DESTROYED Derek Stepan for being a great teammate.
ICYMI, Derek Stepan showed some great leadership during a sequence where he went to talk to Lundqvist during timeout.
Veteran New York Rangers center Derek Stepan created a turmoil last week when he came off the bench during a timeout in the first period of Game 5 against the Ottawa Senators to talk to his goaltender, Henrik Lundqvist.
Television cameras caught the exchange of Stepan and Lundqvist to calm down, with the netminder yelling back.
Stepan was applauded by many for his actions and many called it a great act of leadership, but broadcaster Don Cherry was not having it. Don Cherry was back at it once again with a memorable harsh quote.
“Everybody thinks it was great. I think it was awful,” Cherry said during Coach’s Corner on Friday night. “You never, ever yell at a goalie.”
Stepan actually just tried to calm his Goalie. Knowing him for years, he probably judge it was the right time to do it and the Rangers needed this kind of action from a veteran player.
