We have some reports of early trade talks between the Toronto Maple Leafs and the New York Islanders.

According to comments made by former Islanders forward Mike Bossy on 91.9 Sports today, the struggling Islanders are desperately looking for a way to turn their season around and they believe the Maple Leafs may have the solution.

Bossy stated that he has heard that the Islanders are currently targeting forward James van Riemsdyk who has often been the subject of trade rumors during the course of nearly all of 2016 at this point. It's unclear what the Leafs would ask for in return, or if they are even willing to listen to the offer, but with the Islanders dealing from a position of weakness the ask is likely to be high.

The Islanders may be willing to pay it as well, as their big offseason signing of Andrew Ladd has turned out to be a complete and total failure. Ladd was expected to play the wing alongside John Tavares but instead has been demoted all the way to the fourth line.

More to come on this potential deal as more details become available.
