He is back.

After surprising everyone by inking a one-year deal with the New York Islanders last year in September, defenseman Luca Sbisa is making a return to Brooklyn thanks to the professional tryout agreement he got on Thursday, per Andrew Gross of Newsday.

The former first rounder will attend camp with the Islanders today. Several fans are shocked to see the team is trusting him again, after he landed a one-year deal worth $1,5 million last September, but ended up playing just nine contests in the season.

It remains to be seen if Sbisa will manage to crack the roster this time around. The Islanders already have seven defensemen on NHL contracts. And yes, there are all more talented than the 29-year-old blue liner…

However, the Islanders want to be prepared and might be able to count on Sbisa. He could prove to be important for the Isles, seeing that they are expected to have five players under the age of 24 in the lineup this season. Including a 19-year-old Noah Dobson.

Sbisa could come in handy…

But let’s hope he doesn’t fool the Islanders again into giving him a $1.5 million deal again!
