Veteran forward Chris Higgins will get another shot at playing in the National Hockey League this season.

On Tuesday the Calgary Flames announced via their official website that they had officially brought in Higgins for a professional try-out with their club after he went unsigned throughout this summer's free agency.

Higgins spent the last six seasons of his NHL career with Calgary's Western Conference rivals the Vancouver Canucks, but it was clear last season that the Canucks were ready to move one when they demoted him to the American Hockey League's Utica Comets.

Were Higgins to sign with the Flames it's likely that he would be used in a depth role and could be asked to bounce between the NHL and AHL level once again this season. Higgins struggled last year putting up just four points in the NHL and he will need to show he's capable of a bounce back year if he's to make the team.
