Philadelphia Flyers general manager Ron Hextall has made a number of great deals to help improve and secure the future of the franchise that is currently under his guidance, but one of the trades he made early on in the job has turned into a disaster.

It now appears that Hextall will look to remedy that trade, and he will do so by using his compliance buyout this offseason to buy out the final year on the contract of forward R.J. Umberger, who was acquired along with a 4th round pick in exchange for Flyers' fan favorite Scott Hartnell.

"In terms of the buyout, we'll consider everything here to make ourselves better," he said as per Philly.com.

Umberger has never demonstrated the production the team expected of him after the trade, and as a result found himself sitting out the vast majority of games to end the 2015-2016 season. Umberger knows he hasn't performed but believes he can still play a role for another team.

"I know I can play a third-line role," Umberger said. "I know I can play a fourth-line role if a team wants me to do that. I know I can do it. No problem. I can accept it."

It remains to be seen if a team does indeed pick him up when the Flyers do inevitably buy him out.
