Despite the fact that they don't currently rank at the bottom of the standings The Montreal Canadiens are almost inarguably the worst team in the NHL as we head into the All-Star break, and now a former Habs star is looking to help his former team.

In a recent French language report from TVA Sports former Canadien Alexei Kovalev indicated that he's ready to make an NHL return, and has been training very hard for just that.

"I'm in excellent condition. I work out 5 times a week by doing a full martial arts routine. I have built up significant muscle mass and I know sit at a comfortable 225lbs. I would only need a few days of practice to get back into game shape."

Obviously there are serious doubts about whether or not he could actually contribute, but at this point would it be that crazy for Montreal to give him a shot? Asked how soon he would be available if Montreal called his answer was clear.

"I would come immediately, if Jaromir Jagr can do it so can I"
