The Detroit Red Wings have lost 10 consecutive games and are on pace for one of the worst seasons in post-lockout. We can stress this enough: something needs to be done.

Maybe that’s why team insider Helene St. James of the Detroit Free Press has reported that general manager Steve Yzerman will take matters into his own hands tonight.

Yzerman will reportedly attend the game in Grand Rapids to watch Filip Zadina. T he’ll decide whether Zadina rejoins Red Wings in time for Saturday game.

The Wings are hosting Pittsburgh on Saturday. The Red Wings have been outscored 28-5 in their past six games. They are last in the NHL in goals for and goals against.

With a couple of days before the tilt against the Penguins this weekend, the Wings might have wanted Zadina to get some action in the AHL before returning to Detroit.

Zadina has appeared in five games with the Red Wings and has picked up an assist in each of the past two games, including Monday’s 4-1 loss to the Islanders.

He could return for more, depending on Yzerman’s decision.
