Ottawa Senators star Erik Karlsson underwent surgery to his left foot back in June, following the team’s game 7 loss to the Pittsburgh Penguins in the 2017 NHL playoffs.

The recovery time was expected to be about 4 months, hopefully giving him enough time to recover for puck drop of the regular season in October.

Today, Karlsson revealed a particularly painful detail of his surgery.

Let’s just say it’s a little bit clearer now why he still hasn’t practiced with the team. The team hopes for an October return, but there’s still no exact timetable.

The 2016-17 Norris Trophy nominee posted 17 goals and 54 assists last season, good for 71 points. Hopefully that ankle won’t keep him out of too many regular season games.
