Yeah, he should focus on his team’s performance instead…

After the Montreal Canadiens’ 3-1 loss at the hands of the Pittsburgh Penguins on Monday night, some fans joked that owner Geoff Molson had reminded his players they were supposed to suck and lose in order to land projected first overall pick Alexis Lafreniere at the upcoming draft lottery.

While we laughed out loud here at this idea, it appears that Molson did get involved, calling the Penguins themselves to make something clear after the first contest of the series. Now that all sounds juicy until we found out that Molson contacted the team to complaint about the Canadian national anthem.

According to TVA Sports’ Renaud Lavoie, Molson complained that the singer Brett Kissel didn’t sing the bilingual version of the anthem, as it is important for the team and its fans to have the French lines.

Kissel, who is an Edmonton Oilers fanatic, didn’t even know the Penguins had used this version, in which he wears a Pittsburgh jersey. We can’t say if Molson complained about that, but we know the change was made for the national anthem ahead of Game 2.

However, it didn’t bring any luck to the Habs, who will face the Penguins tonight for Game 3. And Molson might have to complain again who knows… The very popular Michael Buble is expected to be the anthem singer for the third contest of the series.

Will Molson have to pick up the phone again?
