Hockey mom hops onto the boards to get at referee.

This hockey mom has caused quite a stir.

A hockey mom in Quebec has created quite the controversy on social media, largely because there is considerable debate about whether or not her actions should result in a reprimand of some kind.

The unidentified woman gained attention over the weekend when a video began making the rounds on social media from a hockey tournament in the city of Trois-Rivieres, Quebec where a bunch of 13 year old kids were competing in a hockey game. In the video, the hockey mom can be seen trying to get the attention of one of the on ice officials before eventually climbing onto the boards and reaching over the glass to get his attention.

Those who feel the mom should be punished are quick to point out that no one should ever engage in this type of behavior and that any such conduct towards an on-ice official should result in an immediate ban from the premises.

While most might assume that this was a disgruntled hockey parent looking to object to a call made against their child, this does not actually appear to be the case here. Instead the mom in question was trying to alert the officials on the ice to the fact that the game clock on the scoreboard had stopped functioning. She first tried to get the officials attention verbally, then again by banging on the glass, and then finally she climbed the boards and tapped on his helmet to point out the error. Those who have been more lenient towards the overly-enthusiastic hockey mom have pointed out that this didn't appear motivated by anger.

It's worth noting that the official himself showed no sign of being troubled by the interruption, nor does he appear move to have the woman removed from the premises for her conduct. Instead the official appears to signal that there is a problem with the scoreboard to the other official on the ice, when the video suddenly cuts off.

Many have been quick to share their take on the controversial video, including disgraced former National Hockey League referee Tim Peel, infamously fired after he was caught making a 'make-up call' against the Nashville Predators on a hot mic during an NHL game, who made no bones about how he felt about the parent in question.

"This is exactly why we are losing young officials every year," said Peel. "Parents are the #1 problem. Great role model mom."

Do you agree with the former NHL referee and should we see a reprimand for this parent or is this particular case, as some have tried to argue, a relatively harmless example of a parent getting far too involved in the game?
