Hughes injury update from Canucks ahead of tonight’s game against the Blues

This just in, Vancouver Canucks rookie and Calder Trophy frontrunner Quinn Hughes has deemed himself “good to go” for tonight’s game against the defending Stanley Cup champion St. Louis Blues.

Thankfully for Hughes and for Canucks fans, the 20 year old defenseman doesn’t appear to be any worse for wear. Which, obviously, is great news for a surging Canucks team. Hughes, the team’s first round pick (7th overall) in the 2018 NHL Entry Draft has a goal and 10 points in his first 13 games this season and has looked absolutely dynamite on the Canucks’ blue line. He missed just a single game with his injury, which was a 5-2 trouncing of the divisional rival San Jose Sharks.

Hughes, along with Colorado Avalanche defensemen Cale Makar, headline a strong rookie class this season. Other candidates include forwards Ilya Mikheyev and Victor Olofson of the Toronto Maple Leafs and Buffalo Sabres. Coincidentally, Quinn’s brother Jack, the 1st overall pick from this past June’s 2019 NHL Entry Draft, has struggled to begin his NHL career thus far. Here's hoping the Hughes brothers can put on a show the rest of the campaign, how great would it be to see two brothers going head to head in Calder Trophy consideration?

Add in the fact that the Canucks have had two Calder Trophy nominees the past two seasons, with Brock Boeser earning a nod in 2018 and Elias Pettersson winning the award in 2019, and well... you have the makings of an incredible story in Vancouver.
