Injury Report: Fisher’s status updated for game 1

But will the Preds captain suit up?

He’s the team’s heart and soul player. Their leader and their captain. He’s also a pivotal player who wins big time faceoffs and plays big time minutes for his team. That’s why when Nashville Predators forward Mike Fisher was shut down by injury in the Western Conference Final, Preds fans collectively held their breath. Less than a week later, however, and it appears as though Fisher will be ready to take the ice in the Stanley Cup Final.

The Preds captain was issued a clean bill of health this past weekend and will likely suit up for the Preds as they take on the Pittsburgh Penguins in game one of the Stanley Cup Final at PPG Paints Arena tonight in Pittsburgh. It’s a huge boost for a team that’s already missing its top center in Ryan Johansen and top scorer Kevin Fiala. While Fisher won’t be counted on to fill the offensive void created by the absence of Johansen and Fiala, he will be expected to play top 6 minutes and lead the team in the face-off dot.

It’s been a trying postseason for the 36 year-old Fisher. Still goalless and pointless through 14 games, the veteran would certainly love nothing more than to break the slump with a big goal tonight in Pittsburgh. Whether he does that or not remains to be seen, but you have to be in the lineup in order to produce, so he’s on the right track.
