The goalie trade talk had died down in recent weeks with both general managers Jim Rutherford and Steve Yzerman seemingly content to hold to their veteran goaltenders, but things may have changed.

In a recent interview on Sportsnet radio, insider Renaud Lavoie of TVA Sports revealed that Yzerman's stance has shifted.

"There’s a good chance that they’re going to move assets between now and the deadline and Ben Bishop is part of that group,”said Lavoie as per Sportsnet.

“Chances are high he’s going to be traded between now and March 1, which could be a surprise for a lot of people, but they want to get something in return,” Lavoie said. “That’s what I’ve been told…I’m still shocked that a trade like that could happen but I’ve been told chances are high that it will.”

This is a stark contrast from reports earlier this month from Sportsnet insider Elliotte Friedman who stated the Yzerman was not at all swayed by offers he had received for Bishop.

From Friedman:

Word is current offers are low and Yzerman isn’t biting. His risk is seeing a rejuvenated Bishop deliver high reward somewhere else.

However it sounds like Yzerman may have found a way to maximize the return on his veteran goalie, by working a potential sign-and-trade deal, something that Lavoie touched on.

“If it’s a sign-and-trade or trade-and-sign kind of deal it’s going to be big for the Lightning and big for Ben Bishop and big for the team getting him,” Lavoie added.

Stay tuned this could be a huge move.
