Zdeno Chara has had an immense impact of the Boston Bruins for over a decade. The 40-year-old is entering the last year of his contract, and he won’t be easy to replace in Beantown.

Fans wonder if Bruins’ management will want to extend him. Chara has shown that his leadership, his defensive ability and his grit are necessary to the team.

If Chara still has some fuel in the tank and can play the way he has in recent years, he could manage to get a one-year contract extension. Chara is the only option for the Bruins as of now to take the reigns and impact the game defensively in such a way. And the veteran can definitely teach the young guns the ropes.

Chara is set to cost $4 million against the salary cap in 2017-18, which is the cheaper he has been for Boston since 2006. Bruins’ management could extend him for that price, or less, and be victorious.

However, if Chara declines and the Bruins decide to pass on him, there are a few young prospects waiting for the opportunity to grab the torch.

What do you think Bruins’ fans?
