What an incredible gesture.

As most of you have probably heard by now the city of Pittsburgh was rocked by a horrific tragedy over the week end when a hate filled madman entered the Tree of Life synagogue and began to open fire on the people that he found inside.

We now know that the man who entered the church and caused the tragedy was a bigot named Robert Bowers who's social media was filled with antisemitic remarks and hateful messages about Jews and I must saw I was rather saddened to learn that Bowers was taken into custody alive and relatively well in spite of the slaughter he perpetrated on that day. All in all he left 11 people dead, 6 more injured and an entire city in shock at what had just transpired. So shocking was the event that the coverage quickly spread nationally and has since reverberated around the world due to the heinous nature of the crime perpetrated.

In the aftermath of the tragedy the city of Pittsburgh has had to rally around the families that have been directly impacted by this tragedy and as you would expect a classy organization like the Pittsburgh Penguins has already pledged their aid and support. Almost immediately following the tragedy Penguins captain Sidney Crosby vowed to do what he could to help those who have been affected by this atrocity, a gesture we have all come to expect from Crosby who has for so long been such a massive part of the Pittsburgh community.

What no one could have expected however was an incredible gesture of class that would come from a rival organization and much less on the eve of when that organization is set to do battle with the Pittsburgh Penguins. New York Islanders play by play Brendan Burke announcer is currently in Pittsburgh due to the fact that the Islanders will play the Penguins tomorrow night, and he has gone out of his way to try and bring a little more sunshine into the world after such a dark time.

Burke posted a picture of himself about to donate blood on social media and provided a beautiful caption to go with it. It simply reads "Not from Pittsburgh. Not Jewish. Just human." Burke isn't some star player and he likely wouldn't have gotten a ton of recognition for his act unless someone spotted his good deed on social media, and I just wanted to take a moment to shine a light on what a good dude he is, and what an incredible show of class this is from him and the Islanders organization as a whole.
