There are plenty of good reasons why former National Hockey League forward Jaromir Jagr is often referred to as a living legend, and thanks to some quality record keeping from the people at the National Hockey League we now have one more amazing reason to do so.
Over the weekend the NHL revealed that for the first time in 41 years there would be no player in the Stanley Cup final that was, at some point in their NHL career, a teammate of the living legend. That is to say that, each and every season dating all the way back to 1980, at least 1 of Jagr's former teammates has been involved in the Stanley Cup Final.
Now this may seem like giving credit to Jagr for the accomplishments of others but nothing could be further from the truth. What the NHL is doing here by pointing out this rather incredible record is showcasing just what amazing longevity Jagr had as a professional hockey player, longevity that he continues to display while playing for the Kladno Knights of the Czech league.
It is sad to see Jagr's incredible streak come to an end, especially considering that there were still some ways for him to keep the streak alive. Had the Edmonton Oilers advanced in the Western Conference Final, Oilers goaltender Mike Smith would have kept the streak going for Jagr. Smith played alongside Jagr during the 2017 - 2018 season when both were members of the Calgary Flames during what would prove to be Jagr's final NHL season.
There was also a chance for Jagr to keep the streak alive on the other side of the bracket as well had the New York Rangers managed to advance in the Eastern Conference Final. Although he did not appear in the playoffs for the Rangers, goaltender Keith Kinkaid is currently on the Rangers roster and he also played alongside Jagr earlier in his career. Kindkaid and Jagr crossed paths when both men were members of the New Jersey Devils, most recently during the 2014 - 2015 NHL regular season.
