Amidst a tense goaltending battle in Winnipeg the Jets have officially chosen their starting goaltender.

According to a report from Scott Billeck of the Winnipeg News, the Jets have officially named Connor Hellebuyck their starter for their season opener, that game will take place tonight when the Jets take on the Carolina Hurricanes.

The Jets placed Ondrej Pavelec on waivers this week, and while that indicated to msot that Hellebuyck would be the man to get the start, there is still Michael Hutchison fighting in the background for a crack at that number one job.

Hellebuyck was the better goalie last season, although he appeared in fewer games than Hutchison did, and he will need to continue to prove he is a true number one for the long term if he intends to hold on to that spot.
