Come on man.

I for one am a big fan of the National Hockey League's decision to crack down on embellishment in recent seasons. But being that it is entirely a subjective call from an officials perspective, it can cause some debate at times.

On Monday night Maple Leafs forward Nazem Kadri was awarded a penalty in almost comical circumstances after a clean hit he delivered to Calgary Flames forward Johnny Gaudreau resulted in him being slashed twice before he was mauled by another Calgary Flames player, Josh Jooris. Despite all that Kadri was given two minutes for embellishment on the play.

In defense of Kadri here, while he may have in fact embellished the slash he received, only he truly knows, it was hard enough that the video replay picked up the very distinct sound of the stick smacking against his leg, and it's important to note that there were in fact two sticks, one for the back of each leg.

Kadri was obviously not pleased with the call, and let the official know it on the way to the box, and it seems that like at least in this instance he may have had a case.
