The Toronto Maple Leafs were given a tough blow on Thursday, announcing that captan John Tavares would miss two weeks with a broken finger, however, the team is focused on finding solutions.

As of Friday’s morning skate, it appears that Alex Kerfoot has been chosen as the replacement for Tavares on a line with Mitch Marner. Kerfoot skated on a line with Marner and Ilya Mikheyev wearing top-six blue, per TSN's Kristen Shilton.

William Nylander replaced Tavares on the Maple Leafs’ top power play unit, joining Auston Matthews, Marner, Andreas Johnsson and Morgan Rielly as the top unit.
Jason Spezza filled Kerfoot’s spot on the third line in practice Friday, centering a line with Kasperi Kapanen and Trevor Moore. Dmytro Timashov, Nick Shore and Frederik Gauthier completed the fourth line, while Nic Petan skated as an extra with the injured Zach Hyman.

This is a good chance for Kerfoot to show up, he who was acquired in the off-season from the Colorado Avalanche. He has collected two goals and four points in eight games this season.

Tavares is expected to miss the next six games. The first contest on the calendar comes Saturday as the Maple Leafs face off against the Boston Bruins.
