Leafs unveil “Men of Quality” initiative and implore fans to be better fathers, husbands and sons

Earlier today the Toronto Maple Leafs unveiled their new Men of Quality initiative in partnership with White Ribbon Canada.

The initiative is meant to raise awareness and to end gender-based violence. Read below for more info:

The Toronto Maple Leafs have joined White Ribbon to help end gender-based violence. Together, we are asking men and boys to commit to being Men of Quality. Men of Quality always stand up for gender equality. They lead by example; challenging racism, homophobia, transphobia and sexism. Men of Quality set a good example for young men. They encourage men to support gender equality at home and in the community and they teach their children about healthy relationships and consent. Men of Quality are allies not only to the women they love, but to all women.

While a lot of fans may roll their eyes at this initiative, I say kudos to the Leafs players for stepping and acknowledging the role that they play in young men’s lives. 

Personally, and I assume this to be the case for many readers, I feel in love with the game as a young boy. NHL players were and still are real life superheroes to me. I didn’t know it at the time, but the players I adored in my youth were making an impression on me that would shape the rest of my entire life. Again, kudos to the Leafs on this initiative.
