Major lineup changes for the Penguins in Game 7.
The Penguins are expecting some big returns.
The Pittsburgh Penguins appear set to receive a major boost to their lineup as they approach the most important game of their Stanley Cup playoff run thus far.
The news was first reported by Pittsburgh Penguins insider Josh Yohe, who on Sunday morning reported that he expected both Penguins captain Sidney Crosby and Penguins starting goaltender Tristan Jarry would be making their returns from injury for what is going to be the all important 7th and final game of their opening round series against the New York Rangers.
This is of course huge news for the Penguins who have been thus far relying on the services of backup goaltender Louis Domingue, who has performed admirably given the incredibly difficult situation he was placed in, especially when you consider the fact that Mike Sullivan only yesterday described how Crosby's mere presence in the lineup provides a boost to the other players on the roster.
As for what that means from an official perspective? Well Penguins head coach Mike Sullivan was typically coy during this time of the year, refusing to confirm or deny any of the returns for tonight's game. Instead Sullivan would only say that Crosby, Jarry and injured forward Rickard Rakell would all be considered game time decisions for the Penguins this evening. As Josh Yohe put it earlier today though, I think it would take something catastrophic between now and the time the puck drops later tonight to keep players like Crosby and Jarry out of the lineup this evening.
Sullivan was also able to provide an update on two more injured Penguins, injured forward Brian Boyle and injured defenseman Brian Dumoulin. Sullivan ruled both players out for Game 7 and in the case of Boyle specifically he also added that he expects him to be out week to week, which means we may not see him back for quite some time if at all.
Those are some significant announcements ahead of tonight's game, the kind that could have a real tangible impact on the outcome of Game 7.
