Maple Leafs cut their roster down to 30.

The Toronto Maple Leafs have made some changes to their training camp roster and brought the total number of players down to 30. In total the Leafs have made 8 changes when comparing this current roster to the one announced on the opening day of training camp, adding a pair of players and removing 6 others to get down to the roster that will head into the bubble for Phase 4 of the National Hockey League's Return to Play.

First here is a look at the training camp roster that the Leafs announced on opening day:

The players who were on that list that today find themselves notably absent from the updated roster are the following:

Forwards:

Kenny Agostino

Adam Brooks.

Tyler Gaudet.

Egor Korshkov.

Defensemen:

Mac Hollowell.

Teemu Kivihalme.

The decision to leave the two defensemen off the roster comes as no surprises given that neither man has any NHL experience under their belt. Although players do at times make their debut in the playoffs it never seemed likely that this would be the case for either Kivihalme or Hollowell. The absence of Brooks, Gaudet and Korshkov don't exactly come as a surprise either given that none was very active with the Leafs this season with Gaudet appearing in 0 NHL games, Korshkov appearing in just a single game and Brooks only making a few more appearances  with 7. The decision to leave a veteran like Agostino on the sidelines, especially given how well he had performed in the American Hockey League this season, may come as more of a surprise to some however. 

There have also been 2 significant additions to the roster as well with forwards Andreas Johnsson and Nic Petan now included on the roster after having previously been left off on the opening day of camp. Like the players left off the roster there are no big surprises here, in the case of Johnsson he has been one of the most reliable tools in the arsenal of Leafs head coach Sheldon Keefe and was only limited to 43 games this season due to injury. Petan only appeared in 16 games for the Leafs but is a flexible player that could become very useful if any of the Leafs find themselves banged up during the postseason.
