We got it all wrong, folks!

We apparently got it all wrong, folks.

Boston Bruins forward Brad Marchand was not trolling the Toronto Maple Leafs with his tweet. As you know, after the Leafs’ victory over the Calgary Flames on Monday night, the NHL’s PR team tweeted out a stat that Mitch Marner has become the eighth player in franchise history to hit the 80 point mark in 66 or fewer games. This prompted Marchand to reply with his prediction for Marner’s next deal:

Leafs GM Kyle Dubas said that the tweet "was a master troll job" by Marchand, however it seems we've got it all wrong. After the Bruins' 4-3 overtime victory over the Carolina Hurricanes, Marchand was asked about his troll and was quick to explain that his tweet was honest about Marner's impressive performance and what he is expected to command on the market.

“Some people really took that the wrong way,” Marchand said. “You gotta give the kid credit. He’s a great player that’s all I was trying to get at. He’s having a great year. It’s a big milestone for him. Just giving some credit where credit’s due that’s all.”

You have to say Marchand is right about the kid: Marner is Toronto’s highest-scoring player with a nine-point lead on John Tavares and should be in line for a huge pay raise. However, the tweet felt like trolling seeing that Dubas has William Nylander ($6.962 million) and Auston Matthews ($11.634 million) already signed and needs to re-sign Marner, Kasperi Kapanen and Andreas Johnsson before next season.

Marchand might have explained what he meant with his tweet on Tuesday night, however, the Leafs already felt like they were being attacked and are looking to make the Bruins pay in a potential first round series this spring...

Do you believe him?

Bring on the first round series!
