Game 2 of the Western Conference Final in the 2025 Stanley Cup playoffs between the Edmonton Oilers and Dallas Stars may very well go down as the most controversial game of the series. An incident early in the third period between Oilers defenseman Darnell Nurse and Stars forward Roope Hintz has drastically impacted this series already and we now know beyond any doubt that the fallout from that incident will be spilling over into Game 3 and beyond.

Following the conclusion of the game it was very clear that the Stars were not happy about how the situation was handled by the National Hockey League on the ice, with head coach Peter DeBoer taking a jab at the league and even Oilers star forward Connor McDavid in his post-game remarks, but it would be Stars veteran forward Mason Marchment who would send the most dire warning ahead of Game 3.

When he was asked about the incident, Marchment made it clear that Nurse would be a marked man going forward and that, should the opportunity present itself, the Stars would not hesitate to take their revenge on Nurse for what went down in Game 2.

"Yeah, for sure," admitted Marchment. "A lot of that stuff, you just keep in the back of your mind, and if the opportunity presents itself then, you take your chance. We've got a long series here."

Marchment has been a physical presence for the Stars in these playoffs but likely has to tip toe carefully when it comes to crossing the line after a highly controversial incident of his own earlier in these playoffs saw Marchment taking a whack at an NHL official on the ice.

Although the Stars' focus will have to remain on winning at all costs with the series against the Oilers now tied at 1-1, I fully expect that we will see the Stars take a run at Nurse in the coming games.
