***UPDATE AT THE BOTTOM OF THE TEXT***

Some talented free agents are still available on the market, however Micheal Ferland is expected to be taken off the list on Wednesday.

According to NHL insider Elliotte Friedman of Sportsnet, Ferland is closing in on a contract with the Vancouver Canucks, meaning the feisty forward would return to Canada.

Team insider and Friedman's colleague Rick Dhaliwal believes the deal has a four-year term to it.

Ferland was acquired by the Carolina Hurricanes from Calgary in the summer of 2018 along with Dougie Hamilton (and the rights to Adam Fox , which were later traded to the New York Rangers) in exchange for Elias Lindholm and Noah Hanifin.

During the season and even at the start of the summer, it felt like the negotiations between the Hurricanes and Ferland never seemed to be getting off the ground. He was even rumoured to be shopped around the trade deadline in February. Throughout the year, the rumours suggested he was asking for an AAV of around $5 million.

The Canucks have just signed one of the most coveted free agents left on the market. We will let you know at what price once the deal is finalized… According to many insiders in Vancouver, the AAV is believed to be around $3,5 million.

UPDATE: Per Friedman, the Canucks and Ferland have agreed to a four-year deal with an AAV of $3,5 million.
