Just over a minute into last night’s tilt between the Los Angeles Kings and Toronto Maple Leafs, Kings forward Nic Dowd lined up Leafs forward Dominic Moore and rocked him with a HUGE open ice hit.

Moore took a dangerous “suicide” pass from defenseman Andreas Borgman in the neutral zone that put him in a vulnerable position, and Dowd took the opportunity to level Moore with a thunderous, but clean, hit right to the chest.

BOOM!

Of course, since Matt Martin and Andy Andreoff were in the vicinity, yet had nothing to do with the hit, they decided to square off in a fight. The hit and the resulting fight set the tone early on in the game. The two teams entered the game with six wins on the season, but it was the Leafs who eked out their 7th victory of the season on Monday night, earning a 3-2 victory.
